Proposed Adjudication Criteria for each Award Category

Eligible Candidates:

- Architects / Architectural Design Teams
- Engineers
- Architectural Technicians

Adjudication Criteria:

- Design, process maximizes stakeholder involvement
- Design process meets expected timelines
- Positive relationship between cost estimation and final cost
- Design meets intended purpose(s) / program needs
- Design optimizes opportunities for energy efficiency
- Design meets unique and / or creative architectural goals in conferencing to site and community
- Design optimizes multi-use spaces
-Design showcases revitalization of single purpose facilities into multi-purpose facilities
- Design optimizes multi-operational goals
- Design goes beyond intended formation in adhering value-added opportunities (maximize safety, social spaces, access, convenience for users, revenue centres)
- Design optimizes opportunities for capital and operational partnerships
- Design results in sustainable operating advantages
- Integration of special populations

 

Eligible Candidates:

- Land Developers
- Urban & Regional Planners
- Recreation Planners

Adjudication Criteria:

- Promotion of personal, family and community roles in design
- Design optimizes opportunities for physical, social and emotional advancement
- Design promotes social capital, active lifestyles and environmental sustainability
- Design provides innovation in parks, open spaces, natural environments and multi-use connectivity within and between other areas, parks and neighbourhoods
- Design optimizes public safety
- Design follows principles of "smart planning" as they apply to urban and regional communities
- Standards of design (streetscapes, storm water management, public utility lots) are well integrated and designed to optimize opportunities for recreation and nature appreciation

 

Eligible Candidates:

- Recreation product designs / inventions (e.g. sporting equipment, arts / crafts products, playscape / park equipment / fixtures, playgrounds, fitness equipment, indoor)
- Product Retailers

Adjudication Criteria:

- Product promotes physical, social or emotional wellness
- Product availability vis-a-vis market of users
- Quality of product relative to sustained use
- Innovative design – improves upon or provides new opportunities to recreate
- Product perceived as the best new brand product/programming in the parks and recreation field that offers a unique alternative and most exciting design. Product campaign must have first appeared in consumer print publications with an on-sale date on or before ( March 31, 2009)
- Product that displayed a creative, cohesive and consistent brand message in print, digital and point-of sales purchase materials to market
- Consideration given to the product that was created to lessen the impact on the environment, whether through its manufacturing process; materials or usage of the product itself.
- Awarded the best new brand product that featured the most exciting designs, increased its brand appeal and grew its business between __ and __ throughout Alberta.

 

Eligible Candidates:

Individuals, organizations or companies who market and / or provide communications programs, campaigns or advertising ventures which increase public awareness regarding the positive contribution that recreation can make to citizens and the life of communities.

Adjudication Criteria:

 

-Marketing campaign effectively implies and promotes the benefits / quality of life contributions of parks and recreation by way or promoting another product or service.
- Success of market strategy in meeting strategic goals
- Creativity of print and electronic media
- Mass impact of campaign or communications (market penetration)
- Overall production as single entry, series or campaign either in print, television, and/or internet media for advertising and public relations.
- Honours excellence in media communication; for advertising and marketing effectiveness(based on information or responses toward message, marketing strategies and results)
- Recognizes campaigns that achieved significant market place success through four creative marketing elements:
   - Strategy development
   - Creative development
   - Refinement
   - The direction of media exposure, and demonstration of market place effectiveness
- Promotes a multi-faceted program to enrich, educate or drive participation and compels a public call to action
- May include health-related activities, ensuring health community environments or social inclusions

- Landscape architects / landscape architect teams
- Engineers
- Urban & Regional Planners
- Landscape Design Technicians
- Recreation Planners

Adjudication Criteria:

- Design process maximizes stakeholder involvement
- Design process meets expected timelines
- Positive relationship between cost estimates and final cost
- Design meets intended purpose(s) / program needs
- Design optimizes energy efficiency in operations and opportunity to minimize environmental
footprint
- Design beyond intended function in addressing value-added opportunities to maximize safety, provide social interaction, provide convenient access, addresses operational revenue centres
- Design maximizes opportunities for social , environmental and economic sustainability
- Design addresses special populations and needs of special groups (e.g. children and nature, seniors, disabled)
- Design provides for multi-use
- Design enhances opportunities for adjacent landowners and land users
- Design meets and / or exceeds architectural goals through unique / creative features

 

Eligible Candidates:

- Building Contractors
- Landscape / Trail Contractors
- Building & Landscape Sub-trades

Adjudication Criteria:

- Budget control and adherence
- Meeting construction schedule
- Provision of value-added construction processes or components (e.g. reduce costs for materials, energy efficiency)
- Environmental construction practices adhered to
- On site construction management provides safe conditions during construction
- Excellent and open communications and reporting with design professionals and clients
- Clean and well maintained construction site
